Winter Project

As I begin to finish up my "winter project", you'll see the low profile building in the top right of this photo. This structure was discussed earlier.

The forground tracks now contain several cars and an old switching loco. These are permanently glued down additions to the layout now.

This heavily industrialized area I call Schuykill Junction, and it's the Schuykill Valley RR's interface with the great Pennsylvania RR.

Small finishing details are pending.

Country Side of Mini Layout

Here is the mini's "country side". Small as it is, I squeezed in two sidings, each with switcheable track power!. All those small structures you see were left overs from my "big" layout.

If you look closely on the left, you'll see part of the tunnel portal (grey in color) from the industrial side. The other portal can't really be seen, but it's where the street meets the backdrop. Follow the curve of the track, and you'll get a feel for where it is.

Industrial Side of Mini Layout

Here's a closer view of the industrial side of my mini layout. There is an actual track siding that services this industry. The track leaves the scene thru a portal at each end. The portal is disguised as a building entrance.

Most of the structures on this tiny layout are "left overs" from my "big" layout.

Notice the smoke coming from the various stacks!.

Mini Layout

Here's an overall view of my other train layout. Measuring only two by three feet, it was intended to be a "test track" for engines, but morphed into it's own highly detailed layout.

Unique in that it's split down the middle, I have an "industrial" scene, and a "country" scene!.

That large building in the lower left, simulating a power plant, actually houses the layout's power supply and track switches!. By removing it's roof, all controls are exposed.

Built in '95, I still use it to "exercise" my engines.

Low Profile Building Installed

In this image you see the structure I've been working on these last few weeks. It's supposed to be an old fashioned apartment building.

If you look closely you'll see an old woman wearing a red dress on the third floor fire escape. What you can't see in this image is that she's pushing a broom. Also take note of the window details......shades and curtains can be seen.

Still to come will be scenic details to better intergrate the building into the scene.

Low Profile Building

This is the low profile kit I've been working on for the last couple of weeks. The fire escape details are what intrigued me to build it.

It's intentionally designed to butt up against an existing backdrop.

On my layout, I have a back section called Schuykill Junction. It exists primarily as a backdrop. This building will add a little depth.

The ruler is there to give you a sense of scale on just how small this three story building is!.

I'll follow up with a photo of the building once it's "installed" on the layout.
